A Message from the Residential Director
All of us here are dedicated to giving the boys the best services possible. This includes individualized treatment plans, plenty of recreational activities, individual therapy, opportunities to interact in the community, and strong school support of educational goals. We have a unique approach that combines the physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual development of our residents. This is done through our Behavior Modification System, and teaching interactions with the boys in a stable, structured, and safe environment.
We have discovered that the best way to return a client to his home community is with a change in behaviors, not just the cessation of negative behaviors. Thus, while he still seeks attention; he asks for it in positive ways. While there is still anger to be expressed; it can be done in a constructive way. And though he may still have questions such as “who am I?”, and “What is this life about anyway?”, we have provided a foundation on which he can build. This foundation is based on the Judeo/Christian belief system which we base our care, respect, and interactions with our residents on.
So, please take a look at who we are and what we have to offer. I believe that you will also be convinced that we provide the kind of care and commitment you are looking for to give the children you represent a brighter and hope infused future. God Bless
Tom Badley
Residential Director
Tom Badley has been employed at Cedar Ridge since 1989. He and his wife began their work here as houseparents to 10 adolescent boys in Immanuel Cottage. From there, Tom transferred to Faith Cottage before he was appointed Residential Director in 1996.
Tom states, “Working with kids is what I really enjoy doing. Being a Dad is of the highest calling. Our men here do their best to model and instill Dad-like qualities in these boys. Character traits such as empathy, stability, respectability, responsibility and compassion are constant themes in our work with the youth.” He states further, “If we can get these guys to see that they have their whole future ahead of them, and that they do have the ability to make the right choices, then the things they learn here can be carried forth not just in their own singular lives, but in the lives of those connected to them, now, and in the future.”
Tom received his BA from the University of California at Berkeley. He and his wife reside in Berkeley Springs, WV with their nine children.
